The operational advantage of SDR is its ability to reconfigure itself efficiently at time of use, rather than at time of design, enabling it to provide multiple nodes and communication bands for its users. It has been widely spoken that in the near future, most radio systems will be moving towards SDR architecture, making it vital for militaries to have information access to this technology. Most militaries have been duly convinced on SDR’s delivery due to its interoperability and flexibility while keeping cost effectively reasonable. While the benefits of SDR are prominent, it has its share of technical challenges as well. The choice of its architecture is highly reliant on the available technology of its components (eg. Processors and platform technology). Software assurance is a major concern to its users as it will determine the overall reliability of SDR. Unfortunately, testing for both hardware and software reliability has always been a challenge to most engineers. Despite the issues, militaries continue to invest resources in managing the technical challenges in SDR. The next state art of technology based on SDR technology has emerged, with the intelligence to adapt to current operating parameters. It is affirmative that this trend of radio technology is here to stay, making it crucial for all militaries to have regular access to SDR technical know-how, as a competitive advantage in the operational domain. NEW! White Space Radio - World – 2012 Edition You are invited to become an early purchaser of this report. Single User: $6120 / €4500/ £3600 Forum members receive a 15% discount. Contact Filomena Berardi. “Will white space radio revolutionize the wireless industry?” This is the fundamental question being asked by many in the industry. The unique properties of the white space radio frequency bands lead themselves well to some new and exciting characteristics. For example, white space radio (TV band) has excellent propagation characteristics - signals can travel far and through walls. It’s still early days for white space radio; cost, complexity and other factors could be prohibitive barriers in certain applications. However, should these barriers be overcome, the long-term potential for white space radio is endless. This is the proposed scope for the new study: “White Space Radio – World - 2011.” You are invited to become an early purchaser and benefit from an early purchaser discount. Key Questions to be Answered - What problems can white space radio solve that can’t already be solved by existing technologies? - What technical, political, security, legality, cost and other issues need to be overcome to make white space radio a success? - What standards are targeting white space radio (weightless standard, 802.11af, 802.22, Bluetooth, LTE, IEEE P1900.4, IEEE P1900.5, IEEE P1900.6) and how is each approach different? - How will the market for white space radio develop over the next 10 years? - What are the main factors driving the development and subsequent adoption of white space radio in specific sectors (Machine-to- Machine, Vehicle Diagnostics, Asset Tracking, Rural Broadband, Remote Health Monitoring, Home and Industrial Building Automation, Smart Grid, Defence and Security and Other Sectors) ? - What is the roadmap for spectral sensing, cognitive radio and database look-up in white space radio? - Which companies and trials are pushing the development of the white space radio market? - What regulations have been made by the US FCC, OFCOM and other regulatory bodies?
