Dr. John Chapin - Chairman
Dr. John Chapin is the Chief Scientist of Vanu, Inc. He leads the company's research work and its interactions with industry and regulatory organizations. Vanu is an SDR specialist firm providing multi-standard cellular basestations and radio access networks to cellular operators worldwide.
Prior to his work at Vanu, Inc., Dr. Chapin was a faculty member at MIT in the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Department. His academic research work on operating systems and parallel programming earned the PECASE award, which is the US government's highest award for scientists and engineers under age 35.
At Vanu, Dr. Chapin's research work on SDR and cognitive radio has led to numerous publications and appointments. Recognitions include best paper at the SDRF technical conference, best policy paper at IEEE Dynamic Spectrum Access Networks (DYSPAN), invited participant in the US President's Spectrum Policy Initiative, and board member of IEEE Standards Coordinating Committee 41 on Dynamic Spectrum Access. In 2005 he received the SDR Forum's Industry Achievement Award.
Prior to serving as chairman of the SDRF, Dr. Chapin served on the forum's board of directors and chaired the technical working group on the Hardware Abstraction Layer. John received a Ph.D. in Computer Science in 1997 from Stanford University.
